What does it actually mean to grow up as a girl in America, and how has that story changed across generations? At a moment when headlines often focus on what girls are up against, this panel flips the script: there is real, research-backed reason for optimism. Grounded in GSUSA's State of the Girl research, this conversation brings together girls and women across four generations to explore what girlhood looks like right now; in their lives, in their work and school, and in their relationships.
Moderated by Jess Weiner, proud Gen X’er, Cultural Expert, and CEO of Talk to Jess, whose work has changed cultural conversations on beauty, body image, and confidence. From the launch of Dove's Campaign for Real Beauty, the change of Barbie's body, and spending over 30 years helping women and girls feel seen, heard, and understood across media, marketing, and advertising.
Jess is joined by her friend, Monique Colmen, actress from Disney’s original “High School Musical” and recognized youth advocate , who will bring her perspective as a Millennial. And they’ll be joined by two Girl Scouts (in Gen Z and Gen Alpha) who will round out the conversation, because this conversation is about spreading the good news in girlhood and a celebration of how far we've come, a clear-eyed look at where we are, and a charge to keep going, one generation at a time.
